Mishka Henner’s latest exhibition, Painting is History is a collection of new works presented for the first time at the artist’s studio at Rogue Artists’ Studios on 23 February, 6–9pm. The series offers a compelling dialogue between artificial intelligence, painting, and photography. From flooding and war, to wreckage and waste, these works reimagine historical paintings as contemporary scenes charged with the neuroses of 21st Century life.

The provocative title of the show can be read in different ways. On the one hand, the history of painting and its photographic documentation informs entire datasets used by artificial intelligence systems to generate new images, whilst on the other, these systems offer a radical challenge to concepts of originality and authorship so central to art history.
