Influenzer

I think of these twisted, contorted beings as modern Chimaeras; a new breed of humans created by algorithms and artificial intelligence. In essence, what you’re seeing in this work is artificial intelligence giving a soul to soulless, synthetic beings. The result seems to be an entirely new but familiar species conjured up from the minds of AI systems.

Influenzer is an allegory for the psychological and social effects of social media. Our emotions, behaviours, and actions are increasingly determined by algorithms and ideological belief systems at the heart of the social media platforms on which we depend. We can think of the effects of these on our own sense of self as a kind of virus that infects us all individually and as a society. I call this virus Influenzer.
